Accessibility Statement
Last updated: July 10, 2026
Family Crumbs exists so that every family can keep its recipes and the stories behind them — and "every family" includes relatives of all abilities. Grandparents, busy parents, and everyone in between should be able to browse this site, contribute a recipe, and enjoy the book that comes out of it. We are committed to making that experience accessible to people with disabilities.
Our commitment
We want everyone who visits Family Crumbs to feel welcome and to find the experience rewarding, whether you use a screen reader, a magnifier, voice recognition software, switch technology, captions, or any other assistive technology. Accessibility is part of how we build: we consider it when we design new pages and features, and we keep improving what's already here.
What we aim for
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our guide for making the site perceivable, operable, and understandable. Among other things, we work toward:
- Readable text with sufficient color contrast against our parchment theme;
- Keyboard access to navigation, buttons, and forms — no mouse required;
- Meaningful structure, with proper headings, landmarks, and link text so screen readers can move through pages confidently;
- Text alternatives for images that carry meaning;
- Motion that respects you — we honor your system's reduced-motion preference;
- Forms with clear labels and error messages that explain what to fix.
Where we are today
This site is young and so are we — we don't claim perfection. Some parts of the experience may not yet meet every guideline, and our free tools (like the recipe digitizer and mini-book maker) are more interactive than a typical page and may work better with some assistive technologies than others. We review the site on an ongoing basis and fix accessibility issues as we find them.
Third-party content
Some parts of the Family Crumbs experience rely on third parties — for example, our payment processor and our print partner. We don't control those experiences, but we choose partners thoughtfully and will help you work around any barrier you hit along the way.
Tell us how we're doing
If you have difficulty using any part of this site, or you have a suggestion that would make Family Crumbs work better for you, we genuinely want to hear it. Email us at hello@familycrumbs.com with "Accessibility" in the subject line and a short description of the problem and the page where it happened. A person — not a bot — will read it, and we aim to respond within 2 business days. If something is blocking you, we will happily assist you directly while we work on a fix.
